On Saturday, I spent the day at an Artistic Affaire and immersed myself in creativity with the most amazing teachers. I took a total of three classes and will share the others later but I felt this one needed it's own place on my blog. I must admit the main attraction for me was to learn the art of collage from the talented Amy Hanna. Her work is breathtaking and I was looking forward to stepping into new artistic territory.
The minute I signed up, I knew the exact canvas piece I wanted to create. It had been in my mind for months and was now going to be given a way of escape. You see, I come from a beautiful heritage. A lineage of 5 first born daughters.
And Amy's class was perfectly titled Heirloom Houses. I knew I wanted to fill my home with the most important women that have blessed my life. The memories of my Great Grandma Tessie Faye are that of faith, home cooked meals, Sunday School classes and a love of gardening.
My Grandma Virgina showed me the blessings of a loving marriage that stood the test of time. My Mother, whose love knows no bounds and embodies the spirit of unconditional love to all her children. And my own first born daughter who is fast becoming a woman herself and has filled my life with complete and utter sunshine since the day she arrived. My hope for her is that she too will someday have her own first born daughter to continue the legacy.
On the sides of the canvas I penciled this verse:
For the Lord is good; His love is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations Ps 100:5
I know I will cherish this piece for the rest of my days and hope to pass it on. The quality of the art does not matter, the skill of the hand unimportant and the ability of the artist to create great works dismissed. What matters is the emotion and the memories that the piece will bring me each time I look at it. To me it is a priceless work of art.
