Texas Buying Trip

Texas1_edited1 In about two weeks, I'll be flying to Texas to attend the Round Top/Marburger Antique Shows on a buying trip for the shop and upcoming Present Past events. It's going to be a girls get away trip this time and I'll be meeting up with my dear friend Carol and a few other friends for the week long flea marketing extravaganza. We'll be staying in a guest house on a working cattle ranch, should be lots of fun!

I'd love to have a little get together on Sunday, March 30th with other fellow bloggers and shop owners who are planning on attending the shows. I was thinking about making it a lunch time social at Zapp Hall since there are limited restaurants in the area and many evenings are taken up with big parties such as the JunkoRama Prom. If any of you are interested just drop me an email (presentpast@sbcglobal.net) or leave a comment here and I'll start compiling a list. Can't wait to meet you!

Also, if any of you are veteran attendees of these shows and have any information on the can't miss spots to see or yummy places to eat, don't hesitate to leave your recommendations. Already on the agenda of Not To Be Missed are Carolyn Westbrook, Junk Gypsies, D'Ette Cole of Clutter, Willow Nest, and Theresa of Garden Antiques. If you know of any more great vendors, please fill me in. Oh, and I was thinking about doing a few Texas Diaries here on the blog if you're interested. That is if the Cattle Ranch has internet, oh please let them have internet.

Be sure to check out Kathy and Charlie, Jimmy, and St Louis Joe behind Das Blau Haus, and all of the vendors around them, the Hillcrest Inn, and the saloon. I wrote a ton about my 3 trips on my blog if you need more. See october 2006 http://saffronandgenevieve.blogspot.com/. How are you shipping things back? I used Rollin Hills twice,I'm over that. We'll be back in the fall and will fly in-drive a truck back. Have a great time and maybe we will meet in the fall. I can't wait!

Have a great time in Texas, we are very proud here! RT is so much fun, have good time yal!!!

You will have a blast! I was there with a girlfriend in October - she lives in Austin and we drove out there for 4 days in a row from morning til dusk! I just received my postcard with the details for April but I may have to wait until October to visit again. My suitcases were packed to the max upon returning home with treasures and it was such fun to un pack the boxes that I shopped back her to So. Cal. Enjoy every bit of it!

lucky you heather! a bunch of friends and i were trying to co-ordinate this trip, hope we can next year! to whoop it up with the junk gypsies! can't wait for photos! safe travels - xo

I am so envious of you ....wish I could go with you....your blog and stuff makes me drooooll.....

Oh, so greengreengreen with envy that you'll be seeing my sweet friend Linda at Willow Nest. Give her a big squeeze for me, and tell her we surely do miss her here in the Pacific Northwest. Have a great trip! xoxo

You are absolutely going to LOVE Round Top!! Don't forget to check out Warrenton and Shelbyville also - there are lots of treasures in the cow pastures (not the hot steamy kind!). I haven't been in a few years but am getting the itch. It's best to go with girlfriends. My husband has sworn off of it. Have fun!! Junque Gypsies tent is a blast.

Howdy Heather,

Love the boots...When I was in Tennessee two weeks ago...WOW,I couldn't believe how many boots I saw. I'm sure you will see even more in Texas:)
Have a great trip!

Hugs,

Heather how cool to be randomly surfing (I have been on this computer way to long!) and find you talking about getting ready to go to Roundtop! My girlfriends and I go and we love it.
We only live a couple of hours away so it is cool to hear of people coming from out of state! Maybe I will see you there. Happy shopping!

Hi Heather- I've missed visiting your blog for awhile. It seems that my pregnancy kinda keep me a little sidetracked. And now a little bundle is taking up the slack!! But
I've been thinking about you & am hoping to start getting back into the swing of things.
I wish I could join ya'll in Texas. We lived a little town called Longview (home of Matthew McConaughey) & there was a big antique show not far from there in Canton. But I never made it to Round Top. Or to Fredricksburg. Please take lots of pictures to share with the rest of us. I'll keep my fingers crossed for next year.

Hi Heather, I can't believe I finally sound someone else who goes to Roundtop. I go every year (used to go in Oct too) with my sister in law who lives is Ausin. Be sure to go to Clumps in Round-top great hamburgers. Im flying in on the 30th and we are going on Tues, Wed Thurs and Im sooo excited, nothing gets my heart pounding like the site of all those tents in the cow pastures. Also check out Dead Peoples Stuff, great stuff and also do you go to Brennam? I think it just before all the tents so its a little cheaper. Any way hope its not 100 degrees but I love the "Big Ass Ice tea" and be sure to try the deep fried twinkies and lime-aid with cherry too yummy. Have a great time. Kathy Hansen San Jose, Ca

I just picked up my issue of Romantic Country. OMG girl, congrats. That is so awesome. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog, please come by again soon!

Hugs,
LeAnn :)

Woohooo!!!! My husband and I were planning to visit Austin-i've never been there---i just shifted our travel days a bit once i saw that was THE week for all things Antique and Wonderful. I'll introduce myself if i see you :-) saw you at Silver Bella..and aged a mannequin with your blog directions...turned out lovely. Can't Wait!!! Planning on going to the Junkorama Prom? I'll have to see if i can muster any interest in my husband to go---I've been a fan of JunkGypsy for years.

P.S I forgot to clarify that I was looking for flea markets held on Saturdays in Southern California ; )

Do you (or anyone??) know of any great flea markets (vintage-shabby style) that are held on Saturdays?? Thanks!!

I live in Texas, wish I could go, but I still live about 350 miles from Dallas area. I know you will have so much fun.

Oh my goodness Heather.
Texas - a Wonderful place, as I can tell you first-hand! How about stopping over in Oregon, on your way, and letting me jump inside your luggage? I'll be a Stow-away. haha! I MISS my Home State so much. I don't know when I will see it again. But You will find so many treasures in Texas....Can't wait to see what you find sweets! You are going to have a BLAST!!
xoxo Sher

I can't wait to see the pictures you post from that trip! I would love to go someday. I think Country Living has featured it in their magazine before and it looks like so much fun.

I can't wait!!!!!!! We're going to have a blast and hopefully find cool stuff. You know I'll be at the party, save me seat :)

Oh, Heather, How Fun... Can't wait to see what you find for your shop and see all the sights!

Hopefully it won't be too humid for you. It sounds like a wonderful trip. Enjoy enjoy enjoy!

I am so jealous...what fun going to Texas! Wear your boots and have a rootin' tootin' good time! Can't wait to see what you find...

I am sooo envious... A friend of ours used to live in Texas and has gone on and on about Round Top. Between the weather here and our schedules, we haven't been able to do any junkin' and I am going through some major withdrawl!

Happy findings!

I CAN'T GO!!! I went last year as a birthday gift to myself (by myself). Please post from RT and let us know what's going on! Also look for Virgins, Saints & Sinners' booth, which is right up your alley. They had a party on Wednesday evening which was a ton of fun. I'll be posting next week on last year's visit, and will have more recommendations later....

Sounds like a fun time! Can't wait to see what you come back with :o)

I have always wanted to go to that show and the Texas Hill Country so I'll be living vicariously thru you while you are there. Can't wait for pictures.
Have Fun,
Tracy M.

I'm a Texan living in Northern California and I am HOMESICK!! I hope you'll get to post some Texas diaries on the road because I can't wait to hear about your adventures!

Hopefully you'll have luck with your computer on the ranch, but even if you don't, the area around Zapp Hall has free WiFi. My daughters, all college age, and I party at the Junk Prom until we drop, then we go back to our cars and watch the new episode of Grey's Anatomy on their laptops. We don't get a room, we just sleep in our vehicles in the field. Then we rise early and grab some breakfast, so that we can shop on Friday. We're counting the days. We will also be there on Sat. Mar 29 for preview weekend. Good Stuff, can't wait.

Smiles,
Carol

OH! I am jealous as well! I only live an hour and a half away from Round Top, but we are going to be out of town the whole week! Bummer. Now that I know about the treasures to be had at the show, I will definitely plan to attend the next one!!! Have fun!!! :)

lol.....they should have internet, I live on a ranch and we have it!! Hope you have a wonderful trip...I'm looking forward to seeing all the pics!

Wellllll, YipeekyYeah Ms Sparkle CowGirl:) Check those cool lookin boots out! I am sooo looking forward to our trip!!!! Great idea on getting together with the other bloggers, how much fun will that be! I PROMISE to find out about the internet, going to send the email right now!
Hugs,

I am GREEN with envy...this is my dream...next year when both the kids are away at college, I am SO there...and a cattle ranch? All I can think about is Pioneer Woman and Wranglers and chaps...have fun!

I live in Houston, and love the hill country of Texas. My favorite place to eat is in Gruene, TX. It is called the Gristmill http://www.gristmillrestaurant.com/ it is only a short distance from all the activity and well worth the drive to sit by the windows or outdoor patio in the treetops and see the river below as you dine. Good food and great atmosphere. My friend Kandy will have a booth at roundtop, I think it is called Tres Chic. You will have a great time, wish I could be there! I'd love to meet up with you!

i don't know how you do it heather but you seem to out-do yourself every weekend...your trip sounds absolutely awesome and i am sooooo jealous!!! can't wait for you to share your trip! have a blast...

I have to admit, I am positively jealous Heather. I really would love to go to the antiques week in Texas. Unfortunately, spring break is the week before so we are taking a trip then. Perhaps I will get to go in the fall.
I would love to see you blog the trip!
Happy hunting, my friend!

Hi,
I just found your blog, love shopping through the flea market with you. I live in Ohio and my dream is to come to California and go to all the wonderful flea markets.

LeAnn :)

Heather, you are going to have so much fun in Texas. I wish I could tag along too. If you get the chance, tell Linda at Willow Nest tha Lisa from "tickled pink" says hello. I used to go to her shows here in Oregon and sold at one a couple years ago. We miss her. Can't wait to see what treasures you find. Safe travels to you!

Lisa
