Yummy Delights

Brownie2 So, I was rummaging through my kitchen drawers the other day and stumbled upon these 1950's jello molds. I probably bought them 5 years ago with the best intentions of making something with them. I was going to put them in our last yard sale but Sweet Girl screamed "Nooooo, I want to keep them! They're cute!" Flash forward to today when I decided, today's the day.

Due to lack of time I pulled out my box of brownie mix, added an extra egg to the batter, threw in a teaspoon of espresso powder and started mixing!

Brownie3_edited1 When they came out of the molds, I kept thinking, these are so cute! Sweet Girl was right to make me keep them!

Brownie4 And everyone knows that cute things taste better! Right?

To keep us from eating these over-sized treats, I wrapped some in cellophane and silk ribbon to give away. Sweet Girl's taking some to school tomorrow for a friend's birthday and I'm going to take one to my dear next door neighbor.

Brownie1 And if it was possible I'd send one to all of you!  Of course, now that this was so much fun, I'll have to look for some more molds the next time I'm out on the flea market trail.

Update: I forgot to mention that I sprayed the molds very well with non-stick cooking spray. And if you can't find espresso powder you can use regular espresso available in the coffee aisle of your local grocery store.

Heather -I'm trying to make these and I have a few questions - do you leave them in the pans to cool completely before removing? and if so do you cool them inverted? I bought 2 mixes so I could practice with the first batch and they are NOT coming out pretty like yours - so I have a few still cooling in the pans

Heather, I just found your blog the other day and I'm in LOVE with everything you do!!
I LOVE this idea! Can you tell me how long you baked them for? Now I'm on the hunt form some of these darling molds!!

Such a cute and great idea! who could resist? MUST get me some of those jello molds...

Those look so special and beautiful that I would hate to open them!

Too cute Heather! Like everyone else, I wish I was your neighbor too! It's all in the details and you sure know about that... Please let us know where we find the espresso powder and if you sprayed the molds with anything. Thanks for sharing. Have a wonderful day! Amy =)

Oh my goodness, they look scrumptious!! Adorable packaging!! I had tons of these a few years ago, and some heart shaped ones, and I got rid of them all for some reason! Oh how I wish I had them all back!!

Oh my gosh, everything that you make is just a-dor-a-ble!

Oh, I wish I were your next door neighbor! But, now I know exactly what I'm going to do tonight with my vintage molds. Thanks for the inspiration...as always...bon appetit!

Those look so good! I'm glad you didn't get rid of the molds.
You are so nice to give some away.

They're darling and look sooo yummy! Did you put something inside first to keep them from sticking? I've passed up quite a few of these, but have recently decided to grab them the next time I see them. And Sharon's idea of using them for pincushions - how adorable! Love your pretty packaging as well!

MMMMMM, I used to always make espresso brownies when we had our restaurant. I miss them.. you are evil! They sure look cute wrapped up like that!!

Cute and yummy -- a dangerous combination! LOL!

Great idea and they look delightful! Beautiful packaging as well!

Vintage aluminum Jello molds also make great votive candle holders! Since they are metal they reflect the candle and give off such a soft, pretty glow. I also use mine for holding small craft supplies. I love them!

I too have some of those. I bought them to make pincushions with but I'm baking now. Very cute photo of the little cake in the bag with the ribbon.

I am so glad I checked you blog today!!! I will be celebrating my daughter Flavia's birthday this weekend and I think your idea is great, I know how to cook and I love to cook, but baking... I am not good. they look so good wrapped, if you don't mind I will use your idea this weekend, enjoy!!!!

Oh, wow. I am so hungry for chocolate these days. Wish I were your neighbor!! Where do you get espresso powder?

Well, I know where you could take one thats not too far from your place! Hmmmm, Tra.

They turned out adorable, I can almost taste them now. Beautiful packaging too.
